FOOTBALL Federation Victoria north-west division 2 powerhouses, Werribee City and Pascoe Vale, will do battle on Saturday with the winner almost certain to win the championship and promoted to division 1.
The Bees are on a roll and capitalised on Pascoe Vale's draw on the weekend with a comfortable 3-1 win over Maribyrnong Greens at Skinner Reserve.
Goals to Marty Collins, Steve Panebianco and Daniel Iuerle sunk the Greens on their home turf to move to within a shimmy of taking over pole position of the league.
Coach Gianfranco Impellizzeri said he was excited about the prospect of his team becoming No.1 with a win this Saturday.
"We've won six games in a row and we're ready for the big game," he said.
"I'd like the community of Werribee to come down and support us to get into the next division and make sure that we can get soccer promoted around schools in the area."
One of the players who could have a big say in things is new recruit Tony Guiliano, who is rapidly making an impact at the Bees.
The experienced campaigner from Diamond Valley in the South East League has been one of the most integral players in the Bees' campaign.
He also played at Thomastown, Richmond and Whittlesea from 1995-2000.
"I just find my way around to good clubs to get promoted," Guiliano said.
"Basically, Gianfranco and Werribee were thereabouts in getting promoted. We're both looking for the same sort of scenario. The two parties, we both agreed with where we wanted to go for the rest of the year."
A runner-up best-and-fairest at Richmond, Guiliano has had a unique career after competing in cycling at the Institute of Rome as a 17yearold.
On his return home, he had a car accident that was a "major setback" to his sporting career.
"I went overseas when I was 17, came back got hit by a car. She hit me head-on. I had a cracked sternum and did my knee and my ankle and broken ribs," he said.
"After finishing year 12, I wanted to try something different anyway."
He said his biggest aim was to continue to add some sting to the Bees' championships hopes.
"All we need is a bit of luck and the way we're going, we'll probably make our own luck."
The Bees take on Pascoe Vale at Galvin Park this Saturday from 3pm.
